Gen Silent Screenings
Broad Reach Healthcare is seeking to open new doors to broader understandings of the responsibility to ensure a welcoming environment that meets the needs of the LGBTQ patient, resident and family by establishing a Fully Inclusive Care Initiative across Cape Cod.
To meet the needs of this particular demographic, Broad Reach Healthcare will begin the initiative to educate and bring awareness to staff and the community by hosting film screenings of the critically acclaimed documentary, Gen Silent.
Gen Silent is a 2010 film which follows the lives of six LGBT seniors living in the Boston area who must choose if they will hide their sexuality in order to survive in the long-term health care system. The film title is a reference to the generations of older LGBT people who remain in the closet or re enter the closet out of concern for their safety or quality of life. Because of the documentary, the term Gen Silent has increased in use as a way to refer to this group.
Community screenings of Gen Silent will launch at Chatham Orpheum Theater at 7PM on November 1, 2018 and feature remarks from Senator Julian Cyr and Representative Sarah Peake. Additional screenings are at WOMR in Provincetown on November 7th and Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis on November 8th. The Provincetown and Hyannis screenings begin at 6:30 PM. Though there is no charge, seats are limited, and advance tickets are required.
